In several community meetings held by IPS ahead of the vote, some parents who support the school expressed frustration with the decision and others have raised concerns about how the change will impact the school’s already at-risk student population. Still, the vote makes official what will be a major disruption for the 350 or so students who attend Ignite. IPS has said it is committed to keeping School 42 open next year with different leadership in place. The IPS board voted Thursday night to not renew the district’s contract with the charter school operator, which has been running Elder Diggs School 42 since 2017, nearly two weeks after the district told families it would be taking this step.
